Volunteer Policies

BEHAVIOR POLICIES FOR VOLUNTEERING.
1. Volunteers must comply with the established schedule.
2. Everyone must report to the workplace at the indicated time, which usually starts at 8:00 am until 1:00 pm, then a break is taken for lunch, we return at 2:00 pm and end at 4:30 pm. Sometimes when turtle monitoring is done, it starts very early until the patrols in the evenings but this must be communicated and coordinated with the person in charge of the project.
3. It is forbidden to appear at work under the effects of liquor or any psychotropic substance.
4. It is forbidden to be absent from work or to carry out unplanned activities that disrupt natural resources, plants or animal species.
5.  Come to work wearing the uniform.
6. Don't feed the animals or alter their behavior especially in the breeding areas.
7. Don't take materials, money or valuables from other volunteers or families of the lodging houses.

BEHAVIOR POLICIES IN LODGING HOUSES.
1. It is completely forbidden to leave the volunteer house without prior knowledge and authorization from the coordinators.
2. Volunteers usually live with people of various nationalities and languages in the volunteer house, so they must be respectful of the customs and privacy of others. Do not try to impose your personal habits on others.
3. Smoking is not allowed inside the house.
4. It is forbidden to drink alcoholic beverages inside the house, except for special events authorized by the project leader.

5. The use of drugs of any kind is completely PROHIBITED.
6.On Isla de La Plata it's prohibited from consuming alcoholic beverages and smoking either inside the house, on the beach or anywhere on the island.
7. The lodges are shared by families and for this reason it is necessary to keep them clean and orderly.
8. Avoid putting away your clothes when they are excessively dirty, because that will lead to an increase of insects and other undesirable animals inside the facilities.
9. Help keep public places clean and in order (example: kitchen area, dining room, etc.).

10. Visits by strangers to the project are not allowed.

11. The security of the house is essential for everyone, always keep the doors closed.
12. Any anti-ethical or unprofessional behavior will lead to an application for
abandonment of the project, without any letter of recommendation for the assistant.
13. Sentimental relationships between volunteers and the staff of the organization and the places of lodging are not allowed. However, volunteers are responsible for their own actions.
14. Failure to comply with the rules will result in immediate expulsion from the project.

 

MONEY RETURN POLICY
Our organization is not responsible if the volunteer can not start or finish his volunteer work within the agreed deadlines, either due to travel problems (eg lost luggage, loss of flights, etc.) or health problems. Under no circumstances may all or part of the money paid for volunteering be returned.

FREE TIME
It is important to know some details of the days off.

a. Days off are generally weekends and are determined by the organization.
b. Free time activities are the sole responsibility of the participant to select, organize and pay for, including any type of associated transportation. 
c. The staff of the Organization are not obliged to accompany the participants in any day off activity or excursion.
F. Meals that are missed due to day off activities can not be refunded. However, meals will be provided to any participant who stays in the project housing during the assigned days off.
This project is carried out in the areas near Machalilla National Park. Here there are tourist attractions such as Los Frailes beach, the Agua Blanca archeological ruins, the San Sebastián wet forest, the Bola de Oro nature trail, and the Ayampe River. Here you can do activities such as:
• Horse back riding
• Bird watching
• Ecological diving and snorkeling
• Kayaking
• Visit Isla de la Plata, the "Little Galapagos"
• Visit communities, museums and archaeological sites
• Walks through the humid tropical forest
• Mountain biking
